Consulting Services

Oftentimes business owners and the owners’ professional advisors (CPAs, attorneys, investment advisors, etc.) need to know a reasonable expectation as to the value of the business for planning purposes. We consult with these owners and their advisors and analyze financial and other information to assist them in planning for the future. Our work develops benchmark values that can be used by other professionals to develop appropriate plans for succession and/or exit from the business.

  • We assist clients in determining if they should consider selling a business to third parties.
  • We assist clients in analyzing the benefits, risks and challenges in selling their businesses to key employees.
  • We analyze business performance and recommend options for improving value.
  • We analyze the impact of potential investments in capital equipment and other assets to determine the impact on the value of a business.
  • We develop reasonable estimates of value for planning purposes including the appropriate level of life insurance for Buy-Sell Agreements.

Formal Business Valuations

We prepare formal business valuations for a multiple of client needs:

  • We value ownership interests in privately held companies and other types of entities including Family Limited Partnerships.
  • We have been engaged to complete complex projects to compliment and support estate planning for business owners.
  • We work directly with professionals (CPAs, attorneys, investment advisors, etc.) to document and support estate planning and gift tax returns.
  • We utilize appropriate discounts to account for the lack of marketability/liquidity and/or the lack of control associated with ownership interests that are being valued.
  • We prepare our formal reports in accordance with the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA) Professional Standards for conducting and reporting on business valuations. Also, we prepare various formal reports under guidelines established in IRS Revenue Ruling 59-60.
  • We participate in continuing education to ensure that we are current with business valuation standards and trends in the industry.
  • We assist business owners and the owners’ professional advisors in understanding the value of businesses and other entities for planning purposes.

Formal business valuations are performed to determine company or equity interests for:

  • Buy/Sell Agreements
  • Charitable Contributions
  • Dissenting Shareholder Actions
  • Estate Planning and Determinations
  • Family Limited Partnerships
  • Gifting Programs and Gift Taxes
  • Life Insurance
  • Purchase, Sale, Merger of a Division or Subsidiary
  • Divorce
